Smt. Savitha Viswanathan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, known for her deep roots in the Kalakshetra tradition. A graduate of the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, she has dedicated her life to the art form. Her arangetram took place in 1981, marking the beginning of a prolific performance career. Since her debut, Savitha Viswanathan has graced numerous esteemed stages both in India and internationally. Her performances have been featured at prominent Indian cultural institutions such as the ICCR, Sahitya Kala Parishad, and the Mylapore Fine Arts Society. Beyond India, she has performed in the UK, USA, Singapore, Nepal, and Thailand, showcasing the rich heritage of Bharatanatyam to global audiences. Savitha is a graded artist of Doordarshan, India's national television, a testament to her artistic merit and recognition within the country's cultural landscape. She has also contributed to the arts community in the United States, serving as a panel member at the Fulton County Arts Council in Georgia. With over 25 years of teaching experience, including 22 years in Atlanta, Georgia, Savitha Viswanathan is a dedicated educator. She is the Founder and Director of Nritya Sankalpa Dance Academy, where she imparts training in Bharatanatyam, following the rigorous syllabus of Kalakshetra. The academy also conducts summer camps for folk dances, workshops, seminars, and training programs. Under her guidance, students of Nritya Sankalpa have achieved significant recognition, winning awards at competitions such as Cleveland Aradhana, the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts, KCCNA Convention 2010, Saptami Foundation National Competition, and the Papanasam Sivan Compositions Dance Competition. Her teaching philosophy extends beyond technique, aiming to empower students in mind and spirit to make a difference through art.
