Soumya Rajaram is a highly accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher with over two decades of performance experience. She began her extensive training at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, India, a premier institution for Indian classical arts. After graduating at the top of her class, she continued her advanced studies under Guru Smt. Savithri Jagannatha Rao, a renowned Kalakshetra alumna. Rajaram further refines her art under the ongoing guidance of Shri. Sheejith Krishna and Smt. Karuna Sagari, spending several months a year at Krishna's studio in Chennai. She also possesses comprehensive training in Carnatic music, which is an integral component of Bharatanatyam. Known for her exacting standards and mastery of both nritta (abstract dance) and abhinaya (emotive expression), Soumya Rajaram is a recognized dancer and teacher in the Boston area. She performs regularly at prominent dance festivals across the USA, including the New England Folk Festival Association, The Dance Complex, Jose Mateo's Dance for the World festival, San Diego Dance Festival, Cleveland Aradhana Festival, and as part of the Don Quixote ensemble. She also frequently performs at popular dance and music festivals in Chennai, India, including the prestigious December festival. Rajaram is the director of Samskriti, a dance school where she has been training students for over 15 years, teaching Bharatanatyam to all ages in Bedford and Lexington, MA. Her students have excelled, with some becoming choreographers leading classical dance clubs in colleges. She also teaches Bharatanatyam during the spring semesters at the Harvard Dance Center and has conducted workshops and lecture demonstrations at institutions like the University of Massachusetts, Boston, Salem State College, and the Peabody Essex Museum.
