Sritharan Niranjan-Schwaab is a dedicated Bharatanatyam artist and educator based in Berlin, Germany. He completed his initial Bharatanatyam training in 2013 under the tutelage of Guru Diana Rathish, subsequently beginning his teaching career at her dance school in the same year. Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form renowned for its intricate footwork and expressive gestures, became the core of his artistic journey. His commitment to the art form led him to further his studies in India, deepening his understanding and practice of this rich tradition. In 2019, Sritharan achieved a significant academic milestone by earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Bharatanatyam from the Oriental Fine Arts Academy of London (OFAAL). His advanced diploma research specifically focused on “Hasta Prayogam,” which explores the intricate art of using hand gestures in Bharatanatyam, a fundamental aspect of its expressive vocabulary. For his expertise and contributions to the field, he was honored with the distinguished title “Nattiya Kala Ratnam.” Throughout his career, Sritharan Niranjan-Schwaab has actively participated in various dance projects, showcasing his talent and passion on stages across Europe, including Germany, England, and Switzerland. His extensive experience encompasses both performing and imparting knowledge of Bharatanatyam. Currently, he serves as a Bharatanatyam teacher at the Global Music Academy in Berlin, where he guides students through a progressive journey from foundational movements to professional mastery. His curriculum encompasses rhythmic and melodic aspects of music, body knowledge, and philosophical background, aiming for a comprehensive understanding and mastery of this classical Indian dance form. The lessons cater to all levels, from beginners to advanced students and even those preparing for professional stage performances, with the goal of not only mastering Bharatanatyam but also internalizing and expressing its essence. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Sritharan also works as a special needs teacher and psychomotor therapist. He uniquely integrates his profound dance expertise into therapeutic sessions, regularly offering exercise programs designed for individuals with physical and mental disabilities, thereby enriching their therapeutic experience. A testament to his teaching legacy, one of his long-time students successfully made their Bharatanatyam debut in April 2024. He is proficient in German, English, and Tamil.
