Vidwan D.S. Srivathsa is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist, dance-choreographer, composer, and music teacher, widely recognized for his significant contributions to Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam. Born in Bangalore, his musical training commenced at the age of six. He received specialized training in the nuanced technical aspects of rhythm in Carnatic music from his paternal uncle, Sangeetha Kalabhushana D.V. Nagaraj. Srivathsa was also introduced to the art of dance singing and had the privilege of learning dance for five years under Guru Kum. B. Bhanumathi, a leading Bharatanatyam dance guru in Bangalore. He has performed globally as a vocal artiste, accompanying leading and emerging Bharatanatyam dancers across India, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Europe, Singapore, and the Middle East. His voice is well-known among Bharatanatyam dancers in Karnataka and internationally. Srivathsa is celebrated for his authentic Ragabhava, crystal-clear rendering of lyrics, and high-quality emotional content that seamlessly blends with a dancer's performance. He co-heads the institution NARTANA KEERTANA in Bangalore with his wife, Dr. Soundarya Srivatsa, an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer. Under the banner of NARTANA KEERTANA, they organize music and dance festivals featuring upcoming artists and impart training to students. Awards & Honours: Karnataka Kalashree (2010).
