🪔 About

Shruthi Kezhakepuram Purushotham, often known as Shruthi KP, is a distinguished Indian classical dancer renowned for her mastery and innovative approach to Mohiniyattam. Based in Bengaluru, India, she is recognized for her unique blend of contemporary themes and self-expression within traditional dance forms, reflecting a deep understanding of Indian traditional dance as a movement form enriched by its historical and regional roots. Her extensive training began with Bharatanatyam under Guru Ashok Kumar. She then embarked on her Mohiniyattam journey as a principal artist with Guru Sreedevi Unni, exploring the depths of this lyrical art form. A significant turning point in her career was becoming a disciple of Guru Nirmala Paniker, with whom she continues to study and refine her craft. Shruthi holds a postgraduate degree in dance from Bharathi Dasan University and an English degree from Bengaluru University. She also possesses a diploma in 'Contemporary and Mixed Media' from the internationally acclaimed Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts. As a performer, Shruthi is a graded artist of Doordarshan. Her dedication and skill were recognized with the Junior Fellowship for outstanding artists in Mohiniyattam by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2019. In May 2022, she staged a recital at Natanakairali, Irinjalakuda, as a tribute to her guru Nirmala Paniker, showcasing choreographies that highlighted esoteric traits of Kerala culture. Beyond performing, Shruthi Kezhakepuram Purushotham is a certified assistant professor of dance and a published author. She creatively introduces Mohiniyattam to young readers through her children's book, "Mohini Made Friends." She heads the Taamara Dance Centre in Bengaluru, where she teaches, trains, and produces artists in both Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam. Additionally, she is the founder and managing trustee of the Taamara Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting art employability and its propagation.
