Sruthy Jayan is an Indian classical dancer specializing in Bharatanatyam, who also has a prominent career as an actress in Malayalam cinema. A native of Kerala, she began her intensive Bharatanatyam training at a young age, joining the Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai around the age of 10-11, after completing her fifth grade. Her early interest in dance was nurtured by her father, V.S. Jayan, a dance-musician. Prior to Kalakshetra, she received training from Anita Jones, an alumna of Kalakshetra, and Methil Devika. At Kalakshetra, she was groomed by masters such as Leela Samson and earned a postgraduate degree in Bharatanatyam. Sruthy Jayan has been an active professional Bharatanatyam dancer since the early 2010s. Her career encompasses solo recitals and ensemble performances, presented at major festivals and sabhas both in India and internationally. She has showcased original choreographies, including the varnam “Mohamaagine intha velayil,” the bhajan “Hanuman Chalisa,” and the padam “Gandhari Vilapam.” As a member of the Kalakshetra repertory, she performed pivotal roles in dance-dramas choreographed by legendary figures like Rukmini Devi Arundale, portraying characters such as Sita in 'Sabari Moksham', Panchali in 'Panchali Shapadham', and Priyamvada in 'Shakunthalam'. Beyond performing, Sruthy Jayan is also a teacher and choreographer, offering online dance classes and live performances. In addition to her dance career, Sruthy Jayan debuted as an actress in the critically acclaimed Malayalam film "Angamaly Diaries" in 2017 and has since appeared in numerous films and television series.
