Subashni Moonsamy-Naicker is a prominent figure in Indian classical dance in South Africa, known for her dedication to Bharatanatyam. She is the Artistic Director and founder of Natya Anjali, a Bharatanatyam dance school established in 1998. Moonsamy-Naicker initially founded Natya Anjali in Verulam, Durban, before relocating to Johannesburg two years later, where the academy is now based. She has been teaching Bharatanatyam for 27 years as of November 2025, a testament to her commitment to cultural preservation and artistic excellence. A senior disciple of Manormoney Govender, Moonsamy-Naicker had her arangetram 33 years ago as of November 2025, marking her formal debut in the classical dance form. Under her artistic direction, Natya Anjali has trained hundreds of students, fostering a connection to their cultural roots through Bharatanatyam. The academy achieved significant international recognition when it was selected as one of only 25 dance studios worldwide to perform at the prestigious Diwali Dance Fest at Walt Disney World, Orlando, USA, from October 9-12, 2025. This selection highlights Natya Anjali's high artistic standards and Moonsamy-Naicker's nearly three decades of work in preserving and promoting Indian classical dance on a global stage.
