🪔 About
Dr. Subhashree Pattnaik is an accomplished Indian classical dancer with mastery over three distinct forms: Odissi, Bharatanatyam, and Kuchipudi. Born to Bhramarbar and Charubala Patnaik, her journey into classical dance began at the tender age of four, inspired by her elder sister, Rajashree. She holds Master's degrees in all three dance forms, achieving a gold medal in Odissi dance from Utkal Sangeeta Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar. Her Odissi training commenced under Guru Sneha Prava Samantray at Sangeet Mahavidalaya, and she continues to learn from Odissi maestro Durga Charan Ranvir, having also had the privilege of learning from the late Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. In 2012, she expanded her repertoire to Bharatanatyam, studying under eminent dancers Pashumurthy Ramalingam Shastri and Shruti Vinodini. Subsequently, in 2014, she delved into Kuchipudi, receiving tutelage from leading teachers D Balaji Kumar and Padmashri Sobha Naidu at Telegu University in Hyderabad. Dr. Pattnaik is recognized for her artistry, technique, and articulateness in performance. She particularly enjoys performing 'Abhinay' and 'Pallavi' in Odissi, 'Sabdam', 'Jatiswaram' and 'Bhamakalapam' in Kuchipudi, and 'Tilana', 'Barnam' and 'Padam' in Bharatanatyam. She is also an A-grade artiste of Doordarshan and a choreographer, having created pieces for Odissi songs like 'Oh Sambhu' and 'Maheswari'. Committed to promoting Indian classical dances, Dr. Pattnaik founded the Nrutyadham Dance Academy in Bhubaneswar, which currently trains approximately 60 students. The academy also organizes the annual Nrutyadham All-India Classical Dance festival. Her academic contributions include co-authoring a paper titled "Comparative Study on Classical Dances: Odissi & Bharatanatyam" in 2017. Awards & Honours: Susree Nrutyakala Award (2026).
