Sudhana Sankar is a Delhi-based Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer known for her contemporary interpretations of the traditional art form. Born into a traditional Tamil family, she began learning dance at the age of five and Bharatanatyam at six. She had her arangetram in 2009. Sudhana received extensive training under the tutelage of Padma Bhushan awardee Saroja Vaidyanathan and Rama Vaidyanathan. Sankar is recognized for her efforts to make Bharatanatyam relatable to modern audiences, often incorporating raw human emotions and contemporary themes into her performances while staying within the traditional framework. She is also trained in hip-hop, contemporary, and salsa, and has explored collaborations with dancers from different styles. Her work includes pieces like "Easier Done Than Said," an interpretation of the Draupadi episode from the Mahabharata, which emphasizes self-reliance. Beyond performing, Sudhana Sankar is a dedicated educator. She serves as a teaching faculty member for Bharatanatyam at Ganesa Natyalaya in New Delhi, where she herself trained. In 2018, she was appointed as a Bharatanatyam teacher by the Tamil Nadu government and continues to teach at Delhi's Tamil Nadu Bhawan. She has also been empanelled as a Graded Artiste in Doordarshan Kendra, Delhi. Sankar is also an accomplished model, having worked with brands like GoodEarth and Nicojournal, and is venturing into acting, viewing it as an integral part of her artistic expression. She appeared as Meera in the 2026 Hindi-language legal drama film "Assi." She is also a dynamic Instagram influencer, captivating audiences with her storytelling through dance and expressions.
