🪔 About
Sudnya Mulye is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Born in Thane, Maharashtra, India, Mulye began her journey in Bharatanatyam at the tender age of five, driven by her mother's passion for Indian classical dance. Her initial training was under the tutelage of talented gurus such as Guru Shetty, Guru Poonam Murudeshwar, and Guru Kalyani. She furthered her academic pursuit in dance, earning both a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Bharatanatyam dance and choreography from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya, affiliated with the University of Mumbai. At Nalanda, she was profoundly influenced by Dr. Kanak Rele, the institution's founder and a renowned exponent of Mohiniattam. In March 1997, Sudnya Mulye established the Sudnya Dance Academy in Richmond, BC, where she serves as the Artistic Director and Choreographer. With over 25 years dedicated to teaching, performing, and choreographing Bharatanatyam, she has significantly contributed to cultivating an appreciation for this classical art form in Metro Vancouver and internationally. Her academy has produced and presented numerous acclaimed productions, including “Soul of Dance” (2010), “Buddham Saranam Gacchami” (2011), “Ganesha Vandanam” (2016), “Diwali,” and “Married to Canada.” Mulye has also taken on the role of Artistic Director for various cultural events, such as Vancouver Celebrates Diwali, Kala Utsav, Natyanjali, and International Dance Day Richmond. Her collaborative work extends to renowned international artists like Lata Pada, and she has been involved in educational initiatives such as "Learning through the Arts" and the "Artist in Residence" program. Awards & Honours: Award for work at Sangeet Martand Pandit Ram Marathe Smriti Samaroh (2018), Richmond Arts Award Nomination (Arts Education category) (2019).
