Srimathi Suganthi Kumaraguru, alongside her sister Srimathi Jeyanthi Balasubramaniam, is a prominent figure in Bharatanatyam, particularly known for her contributions to the art form in Singapore. Her journey in Bharatanatyam commenced at the tender age of six, where she began her rigorous training under the esteemed guidance of Srimathi Jayalakshmi Raman and Srimathi Neila Sathyalingam, both associated with Kalashetra in Singapore. This foundational training culminated in her joint arangetram with her sister in 1984, under the tutelage of Srimathi Neila Sathyalingam, who is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Apsaras Arts, Singapore. Throughout her career, Suganthi Kumaraguru has been a dedicated performer, gracing numerous stages in dance recitals and taking on significant roles in various dance dramas. She and her sister gained recognition as “Kesavan Sisters,” reputed Apsaras dancers in Singapore. Their artistic endeavors have taken them beyond Singaporean borders, with performances in diverse countries including Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, and Darwin), London, Canada (Vancouver & Toronto), Japan, Turkey, China, South Korea, and across Europe. In 2002, her guru, Srimathi Neila Sathyalingam, honored Suganthi Kumaraguru and her sister with the title “Bharata Kalai Mani” in recognition of their efforts in propagating Bharatanatyam in Singapore. Further acknowledging their contributions, the Indian Activity Executive Committee of Bishan Community Club bestowed upon them the title “Natya Chudar” in 2006. Suganthi Kumaraguru is a co-founder of Bharathaa Arts in Singapore, an institution dedicated to imparting Bharatanatyam training. Through this academy, she has played a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of dancers. She has also conducted various lecture demonstrations and workshop classes on Bharatanatyam in primary and secondary schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Australian International School in Singapore. As of 2011, the Kesavan Sisters had successfully guided 15 students through their arangetrams, demonstrating their commitment to teaching and their legacy as proficient Bharatanatyam educators.
