🪔 About
Sukant Acharya is a fifth-generation practitioner of Seraikella Chhau, an Indian classical dance form rooted in martial arts and performed with masks. He inherited this art from his father, the late Guru Lingaraj Acharya, and is part of the esteemed Acharya family, which has significantly contributed to the evolution and development of Chhau dance. Sukant performs alongside his brothers, Shashadhar, Sapan, and Ranjit Acharya, who are also dedicated exponents of the form. He is associated with the Acharya Chhau Nrutya Bichitra (ACNB), an institution founded by his father in Seraikella in 1980, which serves as a leading institute for Seraikella Chhau. The institution, also present in Delhi, trains numerous artists and has represented India at major international festivals. Sukant Acharya is a key performer in the Acharya Chhau Nrutya Bichitra team, participating in various national and international presentations of Seraikella Chhau, including performances at the Indian Cultural Heritage Festival and other events across India and abroad.
