Suma Varma is a distinguished Indian classical dancer with a career spanning over 30 years, specializing in Mohiniyattam and Kathakali. She is a prominent and active member of the Tripunithura Vanitha Kathakali Sangham, Kerala's pioneering all-women Kathakali troupe, which was established in May-June 1975. Varma joined the troupe during her school days and continues to be an active participant. Her mother, Sathi Varma, served as the manager of this groundbreaking ensemble. Suma Varma received her training in Mohiniyattam under the tutelage of the renowned guru Late Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma and Smt Kala Vijayan. For Kathakali, she trained under FACT Padmanabhan. Throughout her career, she has performed various roles in Kathakali, including Krishna and minukku characters. Beyond her performance career in India, Suma Varma also founded and operated a dance school named Keki in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, for several years. She has since relocated to Kochi, India, where she continues to contribute to the classical dance landscape by offering Mohiniyattam classes. She is recognized as a veteran artist in the field of Indian classical dance.
