Sumedha Sengupta, born in 1992, is an accomplished Indian classical Odissi dancer, performer, and choreographer. She began her intensive Odissi training at the age of five under the tutelage of veteran Odissi Guru Giri Dhari Nayak at 'Odissi Ashram' in Kolkata. Sengupta holds a graduate degree in Economics Honours from the University of Calcutta and a Sangeet Bhaskar with distinction in both theory and practical from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Her career highlights include numerous performances across India in cities like Hyderabad, Pondicherry, Bhubaneswar, Assam, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. She has also represented India internationally as an Odissi performer at the SCOT (Suzuki Company of Toga) International Summer Festival in Toga, Japan. Sumedha Sengupta is an 'A' Grade artist of Doordarshan Kendra, New Delhi, and an empanelled artist of SPICMACAY for Workshop Demonstrations. She has served as an Expert Member of the Classical Dance Audition Committee for Doordarshan Kendra, Ranchi. Beyond performing, Sengupta is actively involved in teaching and cultural promotion. She is currently a Project Associate at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Regional Centre, Ranchi, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She also serves as Odissi Dance Faculty at Jharkhand Kala Mandir, Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Jharkhand, and Jawaharlal Nehru Kala Kendra, Mecon, Ranchi. She founded her own dance school, 'Angan,' to cultivate new talent. Sengupta has diversified her artistic contributions by working as a Chief Dance Choreographer and Actor in the Bengali film 'Aranyer Itikotha,' choreographing and performing Rabindranath Tagore's dance dramas, and researching and directing her own production 'Urmila' in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. She has also worked as an anchor for Doordarshan Kendra Kolkata, Ranchi, DD Bharati, and National Festivals organized by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre.
