Sumeet Nagdev is a prominent contemporary Indian dance figure, choreographer, teacher, and institution head based in Mumbai, India. His journey in dance began with a background in Gymnastics and Mallakhamb before he delved into Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dance, receiving training from Oscar Unger, Veronica Balsara, and Mahesh Mahbubani. In 2007, after graduating in management studies, Nagdev was awarded scholarships to study with the Martha Graham Dance Company and ECNAD Singapore. He further expanded his knowledge by researching Dance Therapy under Tripura Kashyap and undertaking training in Kathak under the tutelage of Pandita Uma Dogra. In April 2007, Sumeet Nagdev co-founded Sumeet Nagdev Dance Arts (SNDA) with Sasha Nagdev, an organization dedicated to promoting inclusive dance arts rooted in Indian culture. SNDA functions as both a performing and touring contemporary dance company, and a school of performing arts with divisions in Mumbai and Pune. Nagdev has choreographed numerous acclaimed productions, including "Gandhi is Alive," "Resonate," "Talkative Dancer," "Dhrut," "Saki Naka," and "Jan-Jaati." His solo production "Talkative Dancer" received critical acclaim and toured extensively in Europe and the USA in 2013, leading Indian critics to identify him as a "path breaking artist in India." In 2010, he was shortlisted as an international choreographer in residence for the American Dance Festival. Beyond stage performances, Nagdev has contributed to television, advertisements, and feature film projects, directing music videos and choreographing for Bollywood films. He also served as a judge on the television show "Dance+" in 2015. Under his artistic direction, SNDA has performed at prestigious festivals nationally and internationally, including the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Pandit Narendra Sharma Festival of Dance, Seattle International Dance Festival, and the American Dance Festival. The academy offers a diverse range of dance education, from urban street dance to classical ballet, while maintaining a foundation in Indian artistic history.
