Swaati Chattopadhyay is an accomplished Odissi dancer and a dedicated writer on Indian arts. Her extensive training in Odissi follows the distinctive style of Guru Surendra Nath Jena. She has been a devoted disciple of Guru Pratibha Jena Singh for over two decades, and also received direct tutelage from Guru Surendra Nath Jena himself. This rigorous training has enabled her to perform widely across India, showcasing her artistry in solo, duet, and group presentations at numerous dance festivals, cultural events, and workshops. Academically, Chattopadhyay holds a Masters degree in Arts & Aesthetics from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, which further fuels her deep understanding and appreciation of Indian artistic traditions. Beyond her performances, she contributes significantly to the discourse on Indian arts through her prolific writing. A notable example of her scholarly work is her role as the English translator for "Atman – Odissi Nritya Puran, History, Techniques and Aesthetics of Odissi Dance," a seminal book by her guru, Surendra Nath Jena. This book, published by the Nrityashilp Guru Surendra Nath Jena Odissi Dance Foundation in Delhi in 2017, encapsulates Guru Jena's profound knowledge of the Odissi dance form. Chattopadhyay's commitment to sharing her insights and experiences is also evident in her Substack journal, "Dance Meets Life," where she explores the intersections of art and daily existence. She is a senior disciple of Guru Pratibha Jena Singh and has performed as part of the Nrityashilp Guru Surendra Nath Jena Odissi Dance Foundation, including a notable performance on April 14, 2025.
