Sweta Ravisankar is a distinguished Bharatanatyam performing artist, teacher, and choreographer, with over three decades of immersive experience in the classical Indian dance form. She holds a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam (MFA) and has also earned an M.Tech in Biotechnology from SRM University, Tamil Nadu. Her rigorous training in Bharatanatyam began in 1993 under Guru Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan of Soundarya Natya Kalalaya in Mumbai. She further honed her artistry from May 2009 under Guru Smt. Roja Kannan in Chennai. Additionally, her father, Mridangam Guru S. Ravisankar (Palghat Mani Iyer Tradition), significantly influenced her rhythmic skills for Nattuvangam, which she also practices and teaches. Sweta Ravisankar is the artistic director and founder of Sarada Kala Nilayam (SKN), a performing arts organization established in 2012, with studios in Beaverton, Oregon, and the Bay Area, California. Through SKN, she trains youth and adult dancers in Bharatanatyam and Nattuvangam, fostering the next generation of cultural artists. She has been teaching for 17 years, starting around 2007. As a performer, Sweta has presented over 150 solo recitals and collaborated with various dance companies, performing extensively across India and the United States. Her performances are noted for their demanding rhythmic precision, physical intensity, and adherence to the subtlety and depth of Bharatanatyam tradition.
