Sweta Ravisankar is a highly accomplished Bharatanatyam performing artist, teacher, and choreographer with over three decades of deep immersion in this classical Indian dance form. She holds a Masters MFA in Bharatanatyam. Her training began in 1993 under Guru Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan of Soundarya Natya Kalalaya in Mumbai, and she later pursued her passion with Guru Smt. Roja Kannan in Chennai from May 2009. Ravisankar's rhythmic skills in Nattuvangam were also influenced by her father, Mridangam Guru S. Ravisankar, who belongs to the Palghat Mani Iyer Tradition. She performed her Arangetram in January 2001. Throughout her career, Sweta Ravisankar has given numerous acclaimed solo Bharatanatyam recitals across India and the United States, performing in prestigious venues and festivals in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and at Natyanjali Festivals. She is also a skilled Nattuvangam artist, having supported her gurus and accompanied other Bharatanatyam artistes. In 2012, she relocated to the United States and founded Sarada Kala Nilayam (SKN), a performing arts organization with studios in Beaverton, Oregon, and the Bay Area, California. As the artistic director of SKN, she rigorously trains youth and adult dancers in Bharatanatyam and Nattuvangam, fostering creativity and community engagement. Her choreography often explores contemporary themes such as identity, mental health, and community resilience, weaving them into the classical margam structure. She has been teaching for approximately 17 years.
