🪔 About

Swetha Dixit is a prominent Bharatanatyam dancer, guru, and the founder and artistic director of Kalaikoil, an institution established in 1985 in California, USA. Her extensive training in Bharatanatyam stems from a rich lineage of esteemed gurus. She trained under Guru Smt Vaasanti Gopinath Jaiswal, the daughter of Guru Gopinath and Thankamani. Her training with Guru Vaasanti included concert programming, conducting, and teacher training. Dixit also had the opportunity to learn briefly from her Guru's Guru, Paramaguru, Late Sri Udupi Jayaram, and her Parameshtiguru, Late Sri Kalaimamani VS Muthuswami Pillai, a student of Late Sri Muthukumaran Pillai and Smt Tanjore Gnyana. Additionally, she studied the intricacies of physical abhinaya under Guru Smt Vaasanthi and further refined her expressional richness by learning from Late Kalaimamani Smt Kalanidhi Narayanan. Her theoretical understanding of Bharatanatyam was guided by Sri T.S. Parthasarathy, who also assisted in setting up Kalaikoil's extensive music and dance research library. Throughout her career, Swetha Dixit has performed extensively across India, Asia, and the USA, delighting connoisseurs of the dance art tradition. She previously performed independently with Young Audiences of Northern California, providing programs to public schools and libraries. Dixit has contributed to numerous theatrical productions through her original choreography. Her performances include Natya Seva at various temples in Pacchapur Karnataka, Mumbai, Chennai, and Trivandram, as well as at prestigious venues such as Mylapore Fine Arts, Bharati Vidya Bhavan, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Bankhead Theatre, Tracy's Grand Theatre, Trivandram, and in Singapore. As the head of Kalaikoil, Swetha Dixit conducts Bharatanatyam classes for children aged 3-18 years in Dublin, CA, and Livermore, CA, USA.
