🪔 About

Tadepalli Satyanarayana Sarma is a distinguished Kuchipudi dancer, guru, and research scholar hailing from the traditional Kuchipudi village in Andhra Pradesh, India. Born into a lineage deeply rooted in the art form, his paternal great-grandfather, Tadepalli Peraiya Sastry, was a revered guru to the legendary Vempati Chinna Satyam. His paternal grandfather, Tadepalli Chandraiah, was renowned for his Kuchipudi Pagativeshams and Kalapams. Satyanarayana Sarma himself received training in Kuchipudi from a young age, and further honed his skills in stree vesham (portrayal of female characters) under the tutelage of the eminent Padmasri Guru Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma. A passionate advocate for the preservation of traditional Kuchipudi forms, Tadepalli Satyanarayana Sarma is dedicated to reviving the fast-disappearing Yakshaganas and Kuchipudi Nritya Rupakas. To further this mission, he established the International Dance Research and Training Centre (IDRTC) in Kuchipudi village, which serves as a hub for research and training in these classical dance traditions. He is recognized as a Kuchipudi Bhagavathamelam artist, a traditional dance-drama format, and a research scholar, actively contributing to the academic understanding and practical dissemination of Kuchipudi. His commitment to the art form is evident in his organizational efforts, such as spearheading "Natya Bharatiyam," a three-day classical dance festival held in Hyderabad in 2017, which showcased a wide array of classical dance styles. He has also been involved in significant academic initiatives, including a seminar-cum-workshop on Kuchipudi Yakshaganam Daruvus at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Hyderabad in 2014. Tadepalli Satyanarayana Sarma also holds the position of CCRT Special Officer, indicating his recognized expertise and contribution to cultural promotion. Among his documented students is his younger brother, Tadepalli Saikrishna, who also pursued Kuchipudi. Through his performances, teaching, research, and institutional leadership, Tadepalli Satyanarayana Sarma continues to play a vital role in sustaining and promoting the rich heritage of Kuchipudi dance.
