Uma Govind is a distinguished Bharatanatyam artist, choreographer, and teacher, recognized as an A-Grade artist by Doordarshan and empanelled with both the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) since 2012 and SPICMACAY since 2013. Her foundational training in Bharatanatyam began under the tutelage of Guru Smt V Mydhili. She further pursued advanced training under the esteemed Kalaimamani Smt. Rama Vaidyanathan from Delhi and Srimati Bragha Bessel from Chennai. Academically, Uma Govind holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Bharatanatyam from Bharathidasan University. Throughout her career, Uma Govind has presented over 300 stage performances internationally, showcasing her artistry in various prestigious festivals across India and abroad. She has choreographed more than 60 pieces and has also guided nine students through their Arangetrams, marking their formal debut in Bharatanatyam. Her contributions extend beyond performance; she served as a compere for the National Programme of Dance on Doordarshan from 2012 to 2014 and was a core team member of Soorya Kiran, a driving force behind the extensive 111-day Soorya Festival. In 2018, she was a member of the Regional Selection Committee for the CCRT Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme, and in 2021, she served as a trainer for the Anubhav-3 national classical dance intensive organized by SPICMACAY. Uma Govind is the Founder Director of Shri Prakruthi Arts in Bangalore, where she continues her teaching legacy by coaching senior students globally through structured, time-zone friendly online platforms, preparing them for performance levels. Her impressive stage presence and beautiful movements have been widely appreciated. She was honored with the National Nritya Shiromani Award by the Utkal Yuva Sanskrutik Sangh, Odisha, in 2014, recognizing her significant contributions to the art form.
