Uma Nambudripad Sathya Narayanan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, Carnatic vocalist, and choreographer based in Chennai, India. Her artistic journey began at the age of six in Nagpur under the tutelage of Smt. Sreemathy, a disciple of Smt. Lalitha Srinivasan. She later received extensive training in Bharatanatyam from the legendary Guru Smt. Chitra Visweswaran at the Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts, where she continues to be guided by her guru. Uma also diversified her classical dance education, training in Kuchipudi under Sri Jayarama Rao and Smt. Vanashree Rao of Delhi. Her musical prowess was honed through Carnatic music training from Smt. Rajeswari Neelakanthan in Nagpur and advanced vocal music, voice culture, and dance music from the late Kalaimamani Pandit Sri R. Visweswaran at the Chidambaram Academy. Following his demise, she continued her Carnatic music training under Sri A S Murali. Uma's comprehensive training encompasses nattuvangam, dance music, theory, and stagecraft, enabling her to integrate her deep knowledge of music into her dance performances. A noted soloist, she has graced almost all leading sabhas in Chennai, including a significant performance at The Madras Music Academy in January 2012. Her performances have also taken her internationally to countries such as the UK, USA, Sri Lanka, Singapore, France, UAE, and Australia. She is the founder of Vishuddhi Arts, an institution through which she is actively involved in teaching and choreography. Uma Nambudripad Sathya Narayanan is recognized for her dynamic style, expressive abhinaya, and ability to blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary presentation.
