Urmila Kothare, also known as Urmila Kanetkar Kothare, is an Indian actress and a trained classical dancer. Born on May 4, 1986, in Pune, Maharashtra, she pursued a strong academic and artistic foundation. She completed her graduation from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and further obtained a Master of Arts degree in Kathak. Kothare is a trained Kathak dancer and also received training in Odissi dance from Sujata Mahapatra in Bhubaneswar. Her early dance engagements include participating in the event celebrating India's 50th Independence Day in 1997, at the age of 11. While widely recognized for her acting career in Marathi films and television, Urmila Kothare has maintained her connection to classical dance. She founded and runs a dance academy in Mumbai named "Nrityasha Dance School," also referred to as "Nrityasha Kathak & Beyond," which was established in 2011. Through her academy, she offers Kathak classes, including online sessions that commenced in September 2020, making her teaching accessible globally. Kothare has also shared her expertise internationally, conducting an introductory Kathak workshop at the Brihan Maharashtra Mandal Convention in the United States in 2013. She has showcased her Kathak performances on various platforms and social media, sometimes performing alongside her students. She is married to actor Adinath Kothare, and they have a daughter named Jizah Kothare, born in 2018.
