Vaidehi Subramanyan is a Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher based in Canberra, Australia, known for her training in the Kalakshetra style. Her interest in Bharatanatyam began at a young age, inspired by her late grandmother, Smt Thangamani Nagarajan, who was a dancer and teacher at the renowned Kalakshetra school in Chennai. Vaidehi continues her training under guru K.P. Yesodha from Chennai, with guidance from Smt Ambika Buch, both of whom are also Kalakshetra alumni. Subramanyan has performed in various locations, including Chennai, Sydney, and Canberra. She presented her first solo performance in 2019 and has since performed regularly in Canberra, often in conjunction with art exhibitions at the Drill Hall Gallery. She is an "in house artist" at the Gorman Arts Centre, one of Canberra's oldest arts institutions, and an active member of Ausdance ACT, Australia's peak dance body. As a performer, she delves into the meaning and symbology of Mudras, which are central to her practice. She also studies Carnatic vocal music under S. Bagyalakshmi of Kalakshetra. Vaidehi teaches Bharatanatyam to young adults, employing the traditional methodology passed down to her by her grandmother and gurus.
