🪔 About

Vasanthasena Srinivasan, a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, began her Bharatanatyam training at the tender age of three and performed her arangetram at six. She received the title "Nritya Kalanidhi" at nine from Swamy Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh. Throughout her career, she has garnered numerous titles and awards for her impressive performances across India. Srinivasan honed her skills under gurus such as Karunambal Pillai, Govindaraja Pillai, and the late Mahalingam Pillai at the Rajarajeshwari Bharatanatya Kala Mandir in Matunga. She also expanded her repertoire by learning Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Mohiniattam from various veterans in these art forms. Vasanthasena Srinivasan received a National Research scholarship from the Government of India and from Bharat Sangeet Sabha for advanced studies in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, focusing primarily on these two compatible dance forms. She now dedicates her efforts to teaching through Nrityalaya, an institution in Chembur, Mumbai, established by her mother, renowned Carnatic vocalist Gangabai Subramaniam, in 1972. Her teaching legacy includes training students from the General Education Academy, Chembur, with the first batch of six students having their arangetram in May 2003. Awards & Honours: Nritya Kalanidhi.
