Vasugy Jegatheeswaran is a highly respected figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Described as a "colossus in the field of Bharatha Natyam" and a "veteran dance teacher not only in Sri Lanka, but also worldwide," she has dedicated her career to promoting and preserving the art form. Jegatheeswaran is the founder and director of Natya Kala Mandhir, a premier Bharatanatyam dance academy established in Colombo in 1976. Through her academy, she has trained multiple generations of dancers, guiding over 146 students to perform their Bharatanatyam Arangetrams. She is a disciple of the renowned Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman. Her commitment extends to serving the aesthetic field of Sri Lanka by ensuring the proper and responsible study of Bharatanatyam. The Natya Kala Mandhir is recognized for its original dance styles, choreographies, and programs structured with traditional and pure Bharatanatyam elements.
