🪔 About

Vedya Spurthi Konda is a prominent Kuchipudi dancer, recognized for her performances across seven countries and her dedication to the classical Indian dance form. Her journey with Kuchipudi began at the tender age of four in San Jose, California, inspired by watching Baapu's Bhagavatam and captivated by the character of Satyabhama. She commenced her initial training under Smt. Himabindu Challa. In 2019, Konda advanced her training, becoming a senior disciple of Sri Jaikishore and Smt. Padmavani Mosalikanti, thereby continuing the esteemed lineage of Vempati Chinna Satyam and the Kuchipudi Art Academy. Konda has graced numerous prestigious stages globally. Her solo performances include appearances at the Erasing Borders Dance Festival in New York, London's Nehru Centre, Chennai's Krishna Gana Sabha (as part of the Ilamayil Thiramai Festival), and at the Consulates General of India in Hong Kong and Scotland. She has also performed with the Shivamohanam ensemble at significant events such as the Madras Music Academy Dance Festival (16th and 18th editions), the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, and the Konark Dance Festival. In 2024, she performed 'Bhama Pravesa Daruvu,' a key segment of the Kuchipudi dance-drama tradition, at the Erasing Borders Dance Festival in New York City. She also presented "Resonance: The Voice of Kuchipudi" with her ensemble, showcasing both traditional and evolving aspects of the art form. A notable performance includes dancing for over 1000 singers at SiliconAndhra's 25th Anniversary, an event that achieved a Guinness World Record. Vedya Spurthi Konda holds a Diploma in Kuchipudi from the University of Silicon Andhra. Her talent has been recognized with several accolades, including being a 2017 National YoungArts Winner and a recipient of the 2021 Apprenticeship Grant from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts. As a second-generation Indian American, she views dance as a means of storytelling and self-discovery, aiming to serve as a thoughtful ambassador for Kuchipudi, honoring its roots while fostering new dialogues on identity and expression. Outside her dance career, she applies her artistic training to her work as a UX designer at IBM. Her Rangapravesam, or debut performance, took place in 2017. She also engages in choreography, as evidenced by her work for SiliconAndhra's 25th Anniversary. Awards & Honours: National YoungArts Winner (2017), Apprenticeship Grant (2021).
