Vidhya Subramanian is a highly acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, actress, and teacher, recognized for her profound expertise in the Vazhuvoor style of Indian classical dance. Born in Chennai, India, she began her Bharatanatyam training at a young age. She received her training under esteemed gurus S. K. Rajarathnam and the abhinaya exponent Padmabhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan. She performed her arangetram (debut solo) at the age of 16 in 1984. After moving to the United States in 1990, she founded the Lasya Dance Company in California. Vidhya Subramanian has since moved back to Chennai, India, and has founded the Sparsha Arts Foundation. As a choreographer, she has created productions that explore cultural and social themes, including female empowerment and patriarchal structures. She also holds a Master's degree in Theatre Arts and has participated in film projects, notably playing the role of Vaanavan Maadevi in the Tamil films "Ponniyin Selvan: I" (2022) and "Ponniyin Selvan: II" (2023).
