🪔 About

Vishakha Iyer is an Indian-Australian Bharatanatyam dancer. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the age of four under the tutelage of Guru Chidambaram R Suresh. She performed her arangetram, or formal debut, in 2016 when she was ten years old. Iyer has furthered her training in India with renowned gurus Sheejith Krishna and Bragha Bessell. While Bharatanatyam forms the core of her artistic practice, Vishakha Iyer is a multi-disciplinary dancer, also proficient in ballet, contemporary, and jazz. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Dance at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Iyer has performed extensively in both Australia and India. In 2024, she made history as the first-ever Bharatanatyam dancer to be selected for 'Callback', a showcase of meritorious compositions by HSC Dance students, for her Year 12 major work, which incorporated Bharatanatyam fusion. In late November 2024, she presented a Bharatanatyam recital titled 'Jagriti: An awakening' to support Vision 2020, a charity organization. She has also collaborated with her mother, Hamsa Venkat, a senior dancer and leader of the Samskriti School of Dance in Sydney, performing a piece called "Bandhanam" as part of "Natya Malai" by Niraivadhi Fine Arts. Iyer has also showcased her own choreography, notably in the "Uttariyam Concert Series" by Bandish Arts in 2021. Awards & Honours: Selected for Callback (2024).
