Durga Bor

Began studies in Odissi Classical Dance — At Naropa Institute, Boulder, Colorado, majoring in dance and philosophy.

Studied under Guru S. N. Jena — At Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi, receiving a five-year diploma.

1985

Participated in intensive workshop — Invited by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Bombay, to study under Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra.

1989

Awarded Professional Development Fellowship by AIIS — Returned to India for fourteen months to study choreography with Manoranjan Pradhan and receive intensive training from Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, engaging in practical study and research.

Taught dance in Amsterdam — Based in Amsterdam for thirteen years, teaching at ISTAR School for Indian Music and Dance, De Nieuw Amsterdam Theatre School, and Muziekschool Amsterdam's Wereld Muziekschool.

1994

Returned to the United States

1995

Began teaching at Cornell University — Taught classical Indian dance and South Asian dance history and theory.

2005

Awarded AIIS Senior Fellowship in the Performing Arts — Returned to Orissa to continue studies with Gurus Manoranjan Pradhan and Gangadhar Pradhan, and began studies with Sujata Mohapatra at Srujan. Performed at the Konarak Dance and Music Festival.

2007

Served as Assistant Professor — At Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

2016

Retired from Cornell University — Worked as cultural and academic events coordinator, administrator, outreach educator, and Dance Lecturer from 1994 to 2016.
