Erika Nandi is a German-born Indian classical dancer and teacher who has dedicated her life to promoting Indian dance forms. Originally from Germany, she was drawn to the cultures of Asia from childhood and found her destiny in India in 1962 after meeting her future husband, Simanta Kumar Nandi. Journey Timeline

1962

Moved to India — Came to India after meeting her future husband, Simanta Kumar Nandi.

1970

Began learning Bihu — First saw and began learning Assamese Bihu dance.

1972

Performed at Assam Sahitya Sabha — Appeared at the Assam Sahitya Sabha and had regular calls to dance Bihu for the next 10 years.

1976

Began Kathak training — Started learning Kathak under Pdt Ramgopal Misra and Sushmita Misra in Kolkata.

1978

Began Bharatanatyam training — Started learning Bharatanatyam under Smti Thankamani Kutty in Kolkata.

1981

Won Silver Medal — Received the Silver Medal at the All India Competition under the Allahabad Prayag Samiti.
