Born — Born in Kuchipudi, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.
1940
Began Kuchipudi training — Started training at age five under his elder brother, Vedantam Prahalada Sarma.
1949
Debut performance — Debuted at age fourteen in 'Harischandra' and 'Ramanatakam'.
1954
First major performance — Portrayed Parvathi in 'Usha Parinayam' at age nineteen in Delhi.
1961
Received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award — Became the first Kuchipudi exponent to receive this honor.
1967
Received Sangeet Natak Akademi Ratna (Fellowship) — Honored again by the Akademi.
1967
Performed in Telugu film — Appeared in the dance sequence 'Girija Kalyanam' in the film 'Rahasyam'.
1969
Assumed leadership roles — Became President of Venkatarama Natya Mandali and Principal of Siddhendra Kalakshetra, Kuchipudi (served until 1974).
1970
Awarded Padma Shri — Received the fourth highest civilian honor from the Government of India.
1988
Received Kalidas Samman — Honored by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Died — Passed away on November 16, 2012, at the age of 77.
