Uma Varma, originally from Kerala, India, is the founder of Revathi Performing Arts in Christchurch, New Zealand (2009). She previously founded Revathi School of Dance and Music in Kerala in 1993. Uma has extensive experience in teaching and performing Bharathanatyam, Carnatic Music, and Kathakali Samgeetham. She trained in Bharathanatyam with Guru Smt Natyakalalayam Padmini Raj and Dr. Vasundhara Doraiswami. In 2007, she received accreditation and a National Award for South Indian Classical dance. She also trained in Carnatic Music under Guru Sri Tharani Ramachandran. Uma was awarded 'Kalathilakam' for five consecutive years at the Kerala Youth Festival (1985-1990) and was a B Grade Young Artist in Vocal Music at All India Radio (1990-1993). She has performed internationally and received several community awards in Christchurch.
