The Shiva Jyothi School of Dance was founded in North Hills California, in 1990. In 1996, with the support of Sri Bhagavatalu Seetarama Sarma of India, the school was renamed as the Kalapeetham School of Dance. The performing wing of the Kalapeetham School of Dance was established in 2005 with the vision of using dance as a vehicle for service. Under its leadership, the Kalapeetham Dance Company has raised over $200,000 for various nonprofit organizations.
