Kathak Kala Kshetra was established in Hyderabad in 1982 by Anju Babu, making it one of the first institutes to teach Kathak in South India. Anju Babu, who trained in the Lucknowi Gharana of Kathak, has also been instrumental in promoting and teaching the Deccani Style of Kathak.
