Meaning
In Bharatanatyam an arudi is a brief rhythmic spacer that closes a teermanam in a varnam or a korvai in a tillana, before the dancer returns to the sahityam or the pallavi line. In Carnatic music the same word names the pause in a pallavi that divides its two halves.
