Smt. Anu Shinai is a Kathak dancer from Mumbai, India, who commenced her training at the age of ten under the guidance of the esteemed Kathak Guru, Late Smt. Asha Joglekar, at the Archana Nrityalaya institute. She furthered her education by achieving Kathak Alankaar Poorna (Post Graduate/MA) from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharv Mahavidyalay Mandaal, an Indian university. Anu Shinai has developed a distinctive personal style that integrates the strengths of the Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras Gharanas. Her training encompassed the powerful tatkar and chakri of Jaipur, the nazakat and graceful body movements of Lucknow, and the robust natwari bol, pakhawaj ke bol, tukde, and paran of Banaras. Her performing career began with her first stage appearance at the age of ten. She has since performed extensively, presenting solo and group performances in Kathak, Bollywood, Lavani, and Folk dance forms at various events and festivals worldwide. Anu Shinai has also showcased her choreographic talents by directing, choreographing, and performing the Kathak ballet 'Vibgyor,' dedicated as a tribute to her Guru Asha Joglekar. Additionally, she has choreographed theme-based dance performances for the Middle East Nursery School in Muscat, Oman. In her role as an educator, Anu Shinai taught Kathak at Archana Nrityalaya for approximately three years. In 2017, she established "Kathak Yatra" in Mumbai, a dance institute focused on the education, promotion, and preservation of Kathak dance and Indian classical art and culture. Kathak Yatra offers comprehensive training and provides formal examinations up to Alankaar (Masters) in Kathak, with affiliation from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Miraj. She has been recognized with several awards during her academic years, including prizes in various dance competitions such as those organized by ISKCON, 'Nrityanjali Fest,' 'Tarang Fest,' 'Jashn-E-Rizvi,' and Maratha Mandir-Kala Kendra.
