Aporajita Mustafa is a Kathak dancer hailing from Bangladesh, recognized for her contributions to Indian classical dance. Born into a family deeply immersed in the arts, she is the daughter and a dedicated disciple of the esteemed Bangladeshi Kathak exponent Munmun Ahmed, and Nazrul Sangeet artiste Sujit Mustafa. Her formative years were spent under the tutelage of her mother, where she received comprehensive and rigorous training in the intricate nuances of Kathak, a classical dance form known for its expressive storytelling and rhythmic footwork. Aporajita's talent emerged early in her career, earning her the first prize in classical dance at the prestigious Notun Kuri competition on BTV. Even as a young student in class four, she demonstrated her prowess on international stages, participating in a significant family performance in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia, alongside her parents. This early exposure underscored her commitment to the art form and set the stage for her future endeavors. Throughout her career, Aporajita has maintained an active presence in the Kathak performance circuit. A notable appearance was in December 2016, when she took part in a special event titled "Fifty-Twenty Kathak Jugalbandi." This event was a celebration of her mother Munmun Ahmed's 50th birthday, where Aporajita performed alongside other students from Rewaz Performers' School, an institution founded by her mother. Her performance included a diverse range of Kathak technical pieces such as thaat, uthan, padan, padan amod, parmilu, tehai, tukra, thumri, tarana, and jugalbandi pieces, showcasing her mastery of the form's complex vocabulary. Critics and audiences have often lauded her performances for their graceful expressions, captivating artistic gestures, and brisk, precise footwork. Further cementing her position in the classical dance landscape, Aporajita Mustafa delivered a compelling Kathak performance at the Dhaka Lit Fest in November 2018, sharing the stage with her guru, Munmun Ahmed. While her mother has established the Rewaz Performers' School, Aporajita continues to be a torchbearer of the Kathak tradition, contributing to its rich legacy through her dedicated practice and public performances.
