Munmun Ahmed is a highly acclaimed Bangladeshi Kathak dancer, teacher, and choreographer, born on December 27, 1966. Her journey in dance began at an early age, with initial training from Azhar Khan at Azimpur Ladies Club, followed by Kathak lessons from Syed Abul Kalam starting in 1978. After completing her high school education in 1987, Ahmed pursued advanced studies in India, where she trained at the Ram Bharatia Kala Kendra under the tutelage of Ram Mohan Maharaj and Raj Kumar Sharma. In 1989, she became a disciple of the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj at the Delhi Kathak Kendra, where she earned her Diploma Honors and Post Diploma degrees in Kathak. Ahmed is a versatile artist, known for her captivating performances, innovative choreography, and dedicated teaching. She is a regular performer in radio plays for Bangladesh Betar and served as the choreographer for the dance performance at the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka. She also imparts her knowledge as a dance instructor at the Indian Cultural Centre. In 1994, Munmun Ahmed founded the Rewaaz Performing School, a pioneering dance institution in Bangladesh, where she serves as the key instructor and choreographer, training numerous students in Kathak and choreography based on the music of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore. Her contributions to classical dance have been recognized with several prestigious awards, solidifying her status as a significant figure in the world of Indian classical dance.
