Dr. Gowripriya Somanath is a distinguished Indian classical dancer and academic, primarily known for her expertise in Bharatanatyam, with significant training in Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. Hailing from Kerala, she received rigorous training in Bharatanatyam from the renowned Kalakshetra, Chennai. She also completed eight years of training in Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi from Kerala Kalamandalam, where she earned the title "Kalamandalam" prefixed to her name. Dr. Somanath holds a PhD in Bharatanatyam from Banaras Hindu University and has also completed an M.Phil in Kuchipudi from the University of Madras, and a Masters' in Performing Arts (specializing in Kuchipudi) from Hyderabad Central University. Her career spans both performance and academia. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor and heads the Bharatanatyam Department at Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University in Gwalior. Dr. Somanath is also a General Council Member of the Lalit Kala Akademi, Government of India, New Delhi, and was selected as an artist in the panel of ICCR in 2017. She has performed extensively in solo and group presentations at prestigious dance festivals across India and internationally. Her teaching experience includes roles as a teacher at Saraswathy Vidyanikethan Central School and as a Diploma Tutor at Banaras Hindu University. She has also choreographed Sri Sankaracharya's Soundaryalahari in Kuchipudi. Awards & Honours: Guinness Record (2006), Gold Medal in National Youth Festival for Dance, Gold Medal in Zonal Youth Festival for Dance, RET Fellowship, UGC NET (2016).
