Meenakshy Bhaskar, often referred to as Meena Bhaskar, is a prominent figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam. She is the daughter of legendary Indian classical dance artists K.P. Bhaskar and Santha Bhaskar, who co-founded Bhaskar's Arts Academy in Singapore. Meenakshy Bhaskar studied dance at the University of Wisconsin, USA. She is an accomplished performer, having taken on lead roles in numerous Bhaskar's Arts Academy productions and performed for dignitaries worldwide, including Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth. Meenakshy Bhaskar is also a gifted choreographer, with her creations rooted in Bharatanatyam while subtly influenced by her diverse training. Her notable choreographic works include "Vinayaka" (2003), "Yatra" (2005), "Yatra II" (2007), and "Yatra III" (2010), which featured a collaboration with Spanish guitarist Roberto Corrias. She has also reimagined her mother's classics, such as "Manohra" (2009) and the Chinese folktale "Butterfly Lovers" (2021). She co-choreographed "Ceremonial Enactments" with her late mother, Santha Bhaskar. Currently, Meenakshy Bhaskar serves as the Artistic Director of Bhaskar's Arts Academy in Singapore and the Principal of Bhaskar's Arts Academy in California, dividing her time between both locations for teaching and choreographing original works.
