Bindu Rajendren is a distinguished Mohiniattam dancer, researcher, and educator, recognized as Australia's premier exponent of the classical Kerala dance form. Born in Dubai, she began her dance journey at the age of four, training for over 17 years under Shri Kalamandalam Mohan in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, and Kuchipudi. She had her Arangetram at the Aranmulla Parthasarathy Temple in Kerala at 14. Her university years in Delhi saw her mentored by Ms. Asha Singh, further developing her skills in classical and various Indian folk dances. Rajendren holds a Master of Dance Studies with Distinction from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Central to her artistic philosophy is the blend of eco-feminist principles with traditional cultural practices, promoting interconnectedness, environmental stewardship, and compassion for all living beings. She specializes in Mohiniattam since 2014, known for her Abhinaya (art of expression), graceful movements, and intense storytelling. Her choreographic works often explore socially relevant issues, including climate change, and incorporate elements from Indian classical dance, yoga, and Kerala martial arts. Bindu Rajendren has an extensive international performance history across India, the UK, UAE, New Zealand, and Australia, including festivals like the Taranaki International Arts Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. She has also taught Indian classical and improvised dances at schools, universities (including Queensland University of Technology), art galleries, and museums for over a decade. She founded Sowparnika Kalari, her dedicated dance space in Australia. She continues to advance her training with eminent gurus such as Guru Kalamandalam Sugandhi Prabhu, Guru Nirmala Panikker, Guru Tara Rajkumar OAM, and Guru G Venu, and explores Sopanam Sangeetham with Anil P.
