🪔 About

Mitu Das is a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer, teacher, and percussionist, known for his profound understanding and performance of the Odissi dance form. His journey in dance began at the tender age of five, where he was initiated as a Gotipua dancer under the direct tutelage of his grandfather, the esteemed Padmashree Guru Maguni Das. This early immersion in traditional dance laid a strong foundation for his future career. Das pursued formal training in Odissi, earning his bachelor's degree from the prestigious Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Bhubaneswar, where he studied under Guru Sri Lingaraj Pradhan. He further honed his skills as a senior dancer and performer at the "Shivaskshya Foundation" under Guru Smt. Sanjukta Dutta Pradhan. For twelve years, he was an integral part of Guru Sri Lingaraj Pradhan's performing group, gaining extensive stage experience across India. Beyond his prowess in dance, Mitu Das is also an accomplished Mardal player, having received seven years of rigorous training from eminent gurus including Padmashree Guru Sri Maguni Das, Guru Sri Sachidananda Das, and Guru Sri Rabindra Das. This dual expertise in dance and percussion enriches his artistic expression and teaching methodology. Throughout his career, Das has been recognized with several accolades, including the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Award, the Nehru Award from Nehru Yava Kendra, BBSR, and the National Junior Scholarship by CCRT, New Delhi. In April 2024, Mitu Das joined Chowk, a Singapore-based dance company, as a teacher, drummer, and dancer, bringing his authentic and powerful energy to the studio. He has performed in significant productions such as Chowk Productions' "One Part Woman" in February 2026 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio and presented a Solo Odissi Showcase at Chowk Studio in May 2024. His dedication to preserving and promoting Odissi, coupled with his extensive training and performance history, establishes him as a significant figure in the contemporary Odissi landscape. Awards & Honours: Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Award, Nehru Award, National Junior Scholarship.
