Debasish Pattnaik is a prominent Indian classical Odissi dancer, exponent, and guru, recognized nationally and internationally. Born to Dibyasingh and Sandhyarani Patnaik, he began his dance journey at the age of six, initially imitating popular dance steps before formally commencing Odissi training in 1993 in Rourkela. He initially learned from Kashinath Roul for nine years, often attending classes without his parents' knowledge. In 2002, he moved to Bhubaneswar to further his training under the esteemed Guru Sri Durga Charan Ranbir, a disciple of late Guru Deba Prasad Das, whose gharana Pattnaik faithfully maintains. Pattnaik has achieved significant academic and performance milestones. He completed his graduation in Arts in 2007 and earned a gold medal in his Master's degree (Nrutyabhaskar) in Odissi from Prachina Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, in 2008.
