Deepa Sashindran, born on July 3, 1974, is an accomplished Indian artist specializing in the classical dance forms of Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. Her journey in classical dance began at the age of five with Bharatanatyam, under the tutelage of Gurus Kalamandalam Usha Datar and Dr. Savithri Ramaiah. At eight, she transitioned to Kuchipudi, becoming a prime disciple of the renowned Kuchipudi expert Smt. Manju Bhargavi, under whom she trained for three decades. She also received further training and innovation guidance from Guru Vempati Ravi Shankar. Sashindran is a versatile performing artist, teacher, choreographer, art curator, and entrepreneur, having dedicated nearly four decades to the Kuchipudi art form. She is an accredited artist of Doordarshan since 1995 and an empaneled artist for the Festivals of India Abroad. Her contributions to Kuchipudi are recognized through the inclusion of her dance pictures in the Karnataka government's Kuchipudi textbook. She has performed extensively both in India and internationally, including solo performances and lead roles in dance dramas alongside her guru. Notably, she was invited to the First International Kuchipudi Dance Conference of North America in Houston and has conducted workshops and performances in Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. Deepa Sashindran is the visionary founder of the Kuchipudi Parampara Foundation Trust in Bangalore, a non-profit organization dedicated to propagating and promoting Kuchipudi. The foundation offers systematic training and master classes in Bangalore and Calicut, fostering high-caliber artists. She has curated and organized several innovative dance festivals, including NatyaVedam, Natya Parampara Utsav, Guru Vandana, and the Art Cafe series. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Sashindran holds a law degree, a PGD in Industrial Relations and Personal Management, and has over 25 years of experience as a Human Resources specialist in the software industry, also owning Karma Kreators, a Human Capital Management Services company.
