🪔 About

Guru Deepak Roy is a prominent figure in Indian classical dance, specifically Odissi. He is a senior disciple of the legendary Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, and has dedicated his career to promoting the lyrical style and precision of Odissi. In 1994, Guru Deepak Roy founded the Deepam Odissi Academy, establishing it as a creative space for dancers to explore their passion for the arts. He also served as the former Head of the Department of Arts at the Indian School Muscat. The Deepam Odissi Academy, a registered dance school in Oman, has since nurtured generations of dancers. His disciple, Aishwarya Hegde, who was one of the earliest students of Deepam, assumed the role of Artistic Director in 2018, continuing his vision in Muscat. Guru Deepak Roy returned to witness 'Roopantar', a production by Deepam Odissi Academy, in May 2025, drawing an emotional response from the audience as a pioneer who shaped Oman's artistic landscape.
