🪔 About

Fathima Isthik, born into an orthodox Muslim family in Vaniyambalam, Malappuram district, Kerala, India, displayed an innate talent for music from a young age, participating in light music competitions during her school days. Her musical journey took a significant turn when her teacher, Rasheeda, at WIC School in Vandoor, recognized her unique voice as particularly suited for Kathakali recital. This led her to begin formal training in Kathakali sangeetham (music) under Guru Deepa Palanad while she was in Class 9. Under her guru's guidance, Fathima competed in the state school youth festival in 2016. After completing Class 12, she pursued higher education in music, earning a BA and later a master's degree in music from Maharaja's College. Although she also studied Carnatic music, Fathima developed a strong preference for Kathakali sangeetham, melodies, and folk music. Her performance at a competition at Kalamandalam brought her significant recognition among Kathakali enthusiasts. Fathima Isthik has garnered attention for breaking religious barriers in the traditional art form of Kathakali sangeetham. On December 27, 2025, she notably performed a verse from the Kathakali play 'Lavanasura Vadham' at the Porur Siva temple in Malappuram district, an act that was widely reported as bridging communities through art. Her renditions are often compared to the versatile Kathakali musician, the late Kalamandalam Hyderali, known for his emotional depth. Currently residing in Dubai with her husband, Naji Raheem, who is a civil engineer and a strong supporter of her musical aspirations, Fathima performs Kathakali sangeetham and various cover songs across Kerala and internationally in Dubai. Despite facing social media backlash and community restrictions, her father, Isthikarudheen, a school teacher, has consistently encouraged her to pursue her passion. Her talent was further highlighted during the launch of "Star Singer 10," where her Kathakali Sangeetham performance earned her a standing ovation from judges and the audience. She maintains a significant presence on social media, where her blessed voice has earned her a large fan following.
