Gayatri Sriram is an established Bharatanatyam artiste, teacher, and choreographer, recognized for her unique thematic presentations that adhere to the traditional framework of the dance form. She received her training in Bharatanatyam under Smt. Minal Prabhu, an alumna of Kalakshetra, whose rigorous style is evident in Sriram's performances and teaching. Sriram's dance is characterized by its precision, grace, and deep involvement, often noted for its individual perspective and freshness. She began learning Bharatanatyam at the age of five and met her primary guru, Minal Prabhu, when she was twelve. Based in Singapore, Gayatri Sriram is the founder and director of the Shruti Laya School of Dance, where she imparts the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam to numerous students. She is also the visionary behind Samarpana – The Asian Festival of Classical Dance in Singapore, an event she created to provide a platform for "thinking artists" and new productions. Additionally, she co-produces the Ananya Samarpana festival in Bengaluru, India. An empanelled artiste with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Sriram has performed extensively both in India and internationally. Her notable performances include appearances at prestigious venues such as the Esplanade in Singapore, Musée Guimet in Paris, The Korzo Theatre in Den Haag, Tagore Centre in Berlin, Nehru Centre in London, India Habitat Centre in Delhi, and the NCPA in Mumbai. She has also been featured in international festivals like the Festival of India in South Africa and the Chennai Music and Dance Season. Her acclaimed productions include "Yagyeseni," based on Pavan Varma's work, and "Trikon - The War Within," which blended Bharatanatyam with English theatre to explore the Mahabharata from the perspectives of Kunti, Gandhari, and Draupadi. Gayatri Sriram is committed to both performing and teaching, believing that teaching is a continuous learning process that allows an artist to evolve.
