Giulia Marchetti is an Italian specialist in Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance form. Her profound engagement with Bharatanatyam commenced in 2008 when she began her initial training in Siena, Italy. Here, she studied the Kalakshetra style under the guidance of Maresa Moglia, a distinguished disciple of Krishnaveni Lakshamanan, who was a prominent personality in traditional Indian dances and a long-serving director of the Kalakshetra Academy in Madras. This foundational training in Italy laid the groundwork for her artistic development. Driven by a desire for deeper immersion, Marchetti traveled to India in 2012 to further her studies. In India, she had the invaluable opportunity to learn from the highly respected Guru Prof. M.R. Krishnamurty, affectionately known as Kittoo Sir. Her time with Guru Krishnamurty allowed her to refine her technique and deepen her understanding of the intricate nuances of Bharatanatyam. Currently, Giulia Marchetti operates as a freelance dancer and dance teacher, with a primary focus on Indian classical dance. She actively conducts performances, offers classes, and organizes workshops catering to a diverse audience, including adults, teenagers, and children. Her commitment extends beyond performance and teaching, as she also engages in social projects, utilizing dance as a medium for broader community engagement. Marchetti has graced stages in Italy, notably at the Caffè Letterario Le Murate in Florence, where she presented captivating Bharatanatyam performances such as "Rasa" in December 2016 and another significant showcase in February 2018. Her international presence was highlighted in January 2024 when she taught a Bharatanatyam class and performed at the Embassy of India in Mexico City during World Hindi Day, an event aimed at promoting Indian culture and language. Through her continuous exploration of Indian rhythms and dance aesthetics, Giulia Marchetti has cultivated a distinctive personal poetic in her dance, skillfully integrating and building upon the rich knowledge and traditions passed down by her esteemed masters.
