Maresa Moglia is an Italian dancer, choreographer, and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance form, and contemporary dance. She is recognized as the first Western disciple of the renowned Indian dancer and choreographer Krishnaveni Lakshmanan. Moglia graduated in contemporary dance from Barnard College in New York, USA, where she received an award for her artistic activities. Her training in contemporary dance included studies at the Martha Graham contemporary dance school and the Limon Institute. She further pursued intensive courses in Bharatanatyam with Carolyn Kay, becoming a soloist in Kay's company and touring extensively in the northeastern United States. Moglia deepened her studies in India and Paris, focusing on Bharatanatyam under Krishnaveni Lakshmanan and Carnatic music and Nattuvangam (rhythmic vocalization) with Sitarama Sharma. She co-founded the "Associazione Culturale Natana Vedica East/West Performing Arts" with Krishnaveni Lakshmanan in 1991, serving as its Artistic Director. Based in Siena, Italy, Moglia performs as a soloist and with her company, presenting both traditional Bharatanatyam and fusion performances. She is dedicated to teaching the theoretical and technical aspects of Bharatanatyam in various cultural associations, schools, and universities, offering lessons, workshops, conferences, and lecture demonstrations. Her institute in Siena has hosted workshops by other notable dancers, such as Madhu Nataraj. Moglia also founded the Rasa Ensemble in Milan, focusing on Indian classical music and dance.
